I n t e r e s t s
My biggest interest in life

When I first made my home-page, I drew this cartoon of myself sleeping. Because I quite liked it, I decided to use it. Unfotunately, for a long time, I didnt quite knkow what to link it to. This is therefore an attempt at making a page which will satisfy that link. Well, I am not interested in anything spectacularly interesting. However, like everyone, I like some stuff a lot.

  • Movies

For one, I love movies. The first thing I bought was not a bed, or table, but a TV. One of my ambitions is to watch every one of the movies on the IMDM top 250 movies of all time list. Of late, however, I have noticed that I dont completely agree with those rankings. For one, I dont think I would put Godfather so high up there. Sure its a good film, but not top of the chart material. However, one thing is certain. If its in the top 100, I will definitely like it. So its atleast a good place to start looking for the next thing to rent. Here's a list of my favourite movies. One of my favourite actresses is Leela Naidu. Here is a small page about her with some photos and a little bio. I plan to expand it when I get some time...

  • Sketching

Sketching is a huge passion. I only wish I were better at it. Here is some art work which managed to get online.

  • Programming

Sounds bizzare? I love programming as a hobby, but definitely not as a full time thing. I have participated in some programming contests and still hack things together when I get the chance. A few languages I am comfortable with are C, C++, Perl and Matlab. I am also passinate about Vim If you are reading this, listen to me! use Vim!! One of the craziest things I have seen done in Vim is a towers of hanoi script written entirely using regexps. Cool! This script ships with the standard Vim distribution in $VIM/macros/hanoi.vim. Recently, my grandfather who's still a math buff gave me an algorithm to generate nested squares. Heres a page with the algorithm and implementation. Some day, I'll put up some more stuff I've done.

  • Music

I mostly listen to old Hindi film songs. Of late, I have begun listening to Indian classical music, both Hindustani and Carnatic. I would definitely recommend listening to Kadri Gopalnath on the saxophone.

  • Books

My greatest interest. I love to go to Barnes and Noble occassionally and spend an afternoon there leafing through the myriad books. Some of my favourite authors are Isaac Asimov (if you are a sci-fi buff, you'll love "The Final Question" written by him), Arthur C Clarke ("Childhood's End"), Douglas Adams amongst the science fiction genre. Although Isaac Asimov has, I think a greater fluency with his ideas and a generally more humorous style, Clarke gets the grander ideas. I loved Jerome K Jerome's "3 Men in a Boat", and I like pretty much all of P G Wodehouse. ("Summer Lighting" is amongst my favourites). Another realy favourite is Lewis Caroll's "Alice in Wonderland". Other authors whom I really like are Mark Twain ("Extracts from Adam and Eve's diary", "The horrible German Language"), O Henry (dont remember any specific titles now). I also really like reading comics, and I would put "Calvin and Hobbes" right up there with the best literature of the 20th century.
