Facilities

Each of the three campuses has an extensive network of workstations, Suns, HPs, SGIs, and other graphics, simulation and visualization workstations with extensive user interactive facilities for recording interacting and viewing simulations at different levels of granularity. In addition, there is extensive hardware at Berkeley for real time video capture, multiple cameras and framegrabbers and TMS real time boards for processing of images. Facilities for CAD layout, design and testing of prototype boards is also available to the project.

Application Testbeds

At Berkeley, we have ready four test beds for experimental and theoretical work proposed on the MURI:

• Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems(IVHS) test bed: we have three fully instrumented cars, with sensors and an extensive simulation facility. Surveillance test beds also exist.
  
  
• Air Traffic Management Systems test bed : we have a simulation test bed called SmartPlanes and in addition have access (at NASA Ames) to simulation models of commercial and some civilian aircraft (more to be furnished pending settlement of intellectual property issues) from Boeing.
  
  
• Intelligent TeleMedicine test bed : we have a telesurgery test bed with cooperating robots for telesurgery, with tissue modeling and tactile display tools. We also have access to surgical video data from UCSF.
