Rapid prototyping of polyurethane structures
We cast Dow Corning HSII silicone rubber in the wax forms produced by
the Thermojet printer. After curing for 24 hours, we cast two part polyurethane
in the molds to make our final parts. While the Thermojet is essentially
a 2.5 D machine, we can make fairly elaborate 3D parts, such as this mockup of
the MFI using a 4 part mold and an assembly step for the two pieces.
This molding process was designed by Manas Menon in 2001.
